The Best British Cheeses
Hosted by Mary Holbrook
The Bristol Wine and Food Fair is very lucky to have renowned cheese maker Mary Holbrook to host our cheese tasting lecture.
Mary is regarded as one of the foremost cheese experts in the UK. She has been making cheese for over 25 years and produces from her farm, Sleight Farm some outstanding artisan cheeses.
Mary started to make cheese in 1979, probably one of the first people to revive goat's cheese making in this country –though not the first. Her cheese is not traditional British but derived from continental styles – France, Portugal and Dutch style cheeses but totally different in its end result. All her cheeses have a distinctive character because her goats graze outside on traditional pastures and this gives the milk and her cheese a distinctive flavour.
This is why Mary is the perfect speaker to host this tasting as she is a truly passionate cheese maker, who will share her hands on experience.
Our cheese tasting will contain 7 of the most interesting cheeses that Mary will personally select. These cheeses will be chosen for their uniqueness, character and defined taste.
To assist in refreshing our palettes between cheeses we will be supplying Gaymers Orchard Reserve and water.
Mary will guide and enlighten you along your journey of discovery, through the world of artisan cheese.
