The great thing about the UK wine market is the widely available variety of sparkling wines from all over the world. Whether it is a Spanish cava, an Italian prosecco, a Californian sparkling, or a fizzy wine from down under, the quality of what is available, has significantly risen in the last five years. These modern sparklers are challenging the king of wine, Champagne, who is desperately fighting a rearguard action, in the battle for value for money.

Susy Atkins is a well-known, award-winning wine writer and broadcaster. She writes the weekly 'Sauce' column for the Sunday Telegraph, and is wine editor for Delicious magazine, as well as appearing regularly as wine expert on BBC1's Saturday Kitchen and Channel 4's Richard & Judy.

This will be the last tasting of the Bristol Wine and Food Fair and I think it is only fitting that we go out not only in style but with an explosion of bubbles.
