Sparkling Wines and Champagnes
Hosted by Stephan Gorda
With the rise of the global wine industry we have started to see challengers to Champagne's crown, these usurpers have steadfastly moved towards the throne of the best sparkling wine, with a determination of rightful heirs, in the land of value for money.
Even upon these shores we have some outstanding examples of sparkling wine producers like Nyetimber, Chapel Down who are beating Champagne vineyards in blind tastings.
To host our last tasting we are fortunate to have Stephan Gorda Head Sommelier of the Hotel du Vin, where he leads two other sommeliers, and manages a 500-bin wine list.
Stefan Gorda places "visiting wineries" at the top of his hobbies list, his favourite traveled regions so far being Mosel in Germany, Douro in Portugal, Rhone Valley and Champagne in France.
His daily motto is to improve guest's dining experience by introducing interesting good value wines which are not usually found at the regular retailer shelf: a true Hotel du Vin affair.
Therefore with this in mind he will select what he thinks are two of the best sparkling wines in the world and select four different champagne styles to compare, analyse and above all enjoy.
This will be the last tasting of the Bristol Wine and Food Fair and I think it is only fitting that we go out not only in style but with a bit of a fizz.
